Data Centre servers powered down

Poynter has switched off the last of our hosted physical servers after completing a major project to migrate all our hosted email customers over to Google Apps.

We have had a data centre presence for over 10 years, completing a move to Greenwich a few years ago.

The move will allow us to offer a much more complete email and collaboration service and focus on looking after our shiny new virtual servers, which have taken over the remaining work.

Blackberry Back?

RIM has posted the following announcement following the outage over the last few days.

It appears that the issues were just limited to BIS emails and their BBM service. Customers with a BES activated Blackberry were unaffected.

Its likely that the backlog of emails will take sometime to clear.

Online Backup Service

Google Apps Reseller

Poynter is now an Authorised Google Apps Reseller. The Google Apps suite provides email and collaboration services over the Internet, removing the need for an on-site server. This is our first major cloud offering for business and education. You can find more information here.

New Engineer

Poynter are pleased to announce that Mark has joined our team of engineers at our head office in Norwich.

Mark will be involved in day-to-day support calls as well as utilising his skills for managing our hosting servers and our customer’s Linux servers.

His appointment will also enable us to refine the Cloud services that we already offer; more information coming soon…

Extending Security to the End Point

Poynter has extended its supply of security software with a partnership with CoSoSys – creators of EndPoint Protector.

EndPoint Protector is a managed service that provides control over USB and other removal devices. The software blocks all devices, including CD/DVD drives, wireless cards and printers. Authorisation of selected devices is granular, with read-only, temporary and full-access options.

With the growth of USB devices, potential data theft/loss and virus infection have become a growing problem. Now all PCs and laptops, in or outside of the network can be managed in real-time; ensuring a prompt response to any requests and notification of any attempted unauthorised device access.

We can install and manage the service for you – ensuring compliance with company policy and avoiding mis-authorisation.

Signed Email Solution

Poynter are pleased to now offer a packaged Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM) Server to cryptographically sign all your outgoing mail, this allows recipients to confirm that you sent the email.

The Server stamps each email with a unique reference number, which the receiver can test against your Domain information and verify your responsibility for the email.

Google and Yahoo! are recommending the use of DKIM to all Bulk Senders, but it will also provide reassurance to your customers when they receive important communications.

The server can be provided as a Physical Server, a Virtual Machine for VMWare or Hyper-V or as a Hosted Service.

3CX Phone System Version 9 Released

3CX has released version 9 of its popular phone system for Windows. It builds on the popular IP PBX software by adding support for:

Video Calling
Android smart phones
Improved multi-site functionality
Microsoft Dynamics
Improved Conference Call creation and call forwarding
